Smoke testing of sewers

The Town of Williamstown along with its engineering consultant, DPC Engineering, LLC, will be performing Smoke Testing as part of a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) starting on October 5, 2020. Smoke Testing involves blowing harmless smoke into sanitary sewer mains to determine any areas where storm and surface water may be entering the sewer system. The smoke should not enter your home if your house has proper plumbing, ventilation, and water traps containing water. Please run water in fixtures that are not used regularly to fill the traps.

The testing will be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will not interrupt sanitary sewer service. The Town of Williamstown Fire Department, and Police Department will be notified of where the testing is taking place each day, and a police detail will accompany when necessary. Should smoke enter your home or business during testing, open windows to allow ventilation and note the location of the smoke. The smoke will clear within a few minutes and please notify a member of the testing crew.

If you have any questions of concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Gray Fisher of DPC Engineering, LLC at 413-523-2430.

Thank You,
