Council on Aging Update

Wednesday July 7th, 2021

Great to see everyone at the Parade, great to be out there and enjoying the day!

Bee Friendly Williamstown is hosting a Butterfly Walk at Mountain Meadows on Friday this week from 1:30 to 3:00.The rain date is slated for Friday July 16th. Mountain Meadow Preserve is located at the end of Mason Street here in Williamstown, the Meadow is a Trustee of the Reservation Property. It’s a big area with meadows, forest, wetlands, wild flowers, birds, bees and butterflies, a great spot to hike or just sit and meditate. There is parking available and this event is free. Sounds like a great reason to go for a nature walk- the Bee Friendly folks will be there to help you identify all sorts of butterflies too.

MASS MoCA’s Community Day for this year is on July 17 and all Berkshire County residents will receive free museum admission.  There will be a variety of activities available for visitors. The Drifting Studio will open with art-making activities, Care Syllabus www.caresyllabus.org will have an interactive mural and information about their work, and there will be pop-up music performances throughout the day. It’s a Saturday folks and if you haven’t been in lately, a great time to make your first post Covid visit!

Here at Harper, some notes on upcoming programs to remember/note;.

The Blood Pressure Clinic with our friend Jason from Williamstown Commons resumes during the Bingo break this week, Friday July 9th at 2:00.

Next week, on Tuesday, July 12th, we’ll be doing a spaghetti and meatballs luncheon, garlic bread, etc. at noon. Several times since we unlocked the doors and reopened folks have been asking for this meal and well, here it is. Let us know if you’re coming, 413.458.8250. Or better yet, tell us when you are here.

The following week, on Friday, the 16th at 2:00, Hope from Fallon Health will be here with Ice cream, our first Ice Cream Social in months and everyone is welcome. This may be a break in the middle of a Bingo game or it may just be ice cream. We’ll figure that out later in the week, in the meanwhile, just note Ice Cream on your calendars.

The following Friday, July 23rd will be a cookout followed by Accordion Al. Food at noon, Al at 1:00. Looks like burgers and dogs at this moment. Haven’t done it in awhile, looking forward to it!

On Friday, July 30th representatives from the AARP Fraud Watch Network, the Berkshire District Attorney’s office and possibly others will be here to talk with us about all sorts of fraudulent efforts aimed at separating you from your money. There will be food first, a cookout, menu TBD at 12:30 with the event kicking off at 1:30- more details to follow, just wanted to note this early for you to get on your calendars. So-get marking!

From the workout side of us, Jane is moving her Thursday Balance Class back to its usual time, 1:00 in the afternoon. So…if you come in the morning…she won’t be here.

Finally, in the coming attractions category, we have tentatively scheduled the fall bazaar for Saturday, October 2nd 10:00-3:00. If you’re an artist, wood carver, quilter or practice any other artform and are interested in participating, let us know by responding to this email. More to follow in a separate note later this week.

Make sure that you know where your umbrellas are!
