Council on Aging Update

Update, Tuesday April 13th, 2021

Are you ready? Yesterday there wasn’t a  new dose clinic on the horizon. Then, as with classic New England weather, it  all changed quite suddenly.

At 8:50 last night they announced a new first shot clinic to be offered this week on Thursday, April 15th, from 12-5.

This afternoon,Tuesday April 13th, at 6 pm there will be a batch of new appointments going “live”. Anyone needing/wanting an appointment visit and be in the virtual waiting room at least 20 minutes early. .There will be a combination of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines available, something in the neighborhood of 850 new doses and additionally 500 second dose Pfizer jabs for folks who have already received their first shot.

So, here we go again. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet and need that jab, get in line early. The official suggestion from the NB Covid team is that you get in line 20 minutes early which means at least by 5:40.There is a lot of availability so get in there!

Oh.  I don’t have to remind you that you cannot “borrow” someone else’s link to acquire a shot right? If you have received an email with a personal link to set up your second shot you must not share it with anyone else. That link is for you alone. Yes, it has happened, more than once, and the individuals who have borrowed the link have been turned away at the door. Not fun, I have volunteered at quite a few clinics and have seen it happen.

Finally for today, today the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has  issued a statement regarding the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. They’re recommending a pause in its use out of an abundance of caution.(I got to tell you folks, I am really tired of hearing the phrase “abundance of caution”.. It is so 2020…)

I digress. The Department of Public Health is notifying all Massachusetts providers to pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, effective immediately. If you were hoping to join the one and done club, you’ll just have to wait.
