The Williamstown Assessor performs all appraisal/assessment duties in a manner consistent with statutory requirements, without advocacy for, or accommodation of, any interests. They are factual, objective, unbiased, and honest in all conclusions.
The Massachusetts Department of Revenue-Bureau of Local Assessment (DOR-BLA) mandates every municipality fully update property assessments each fiscal year to reflect current fair market value. Every five years, the DOR-BLA audits the Assessors’ records and procedures to certify compliance. The last certification of the Assessors’ records, procedures and values was completed for fiscal year 2025.
Annually, updated property assessments are submitted to the DOR-BLA each fiscal year for review and approval. Once values are approved the Select Board is able to hold their annual Classification Hearing to determine how the tax levy will be distributed among property owners. Upon conclusion of the Classification Hearing, final documentation is submitted to the DOR-BLA for their certification of the Town’s tax rate.
The Town Assessor serves as chair of the Board of Assessors.
