The Building Department provides guidance and support for a wide range of residential and commercial projects. Our mission is to uphold safety, compliance, and efficiency, ensuring that every project advances with confidence and in full accordance with the state-wide building code and Massachusetts General Law.
Services include assistance with annual certificates of inspection, commercial building permits, changes of use or occupancy, and the construction of decks and porches. We also oversee demolition and renovation projects, fences, mechanical systems, gas fitting, plumbing, electrical work, swimming pools, solar installations, solid fuel appliances, trenches, and new single-family residences. In addition, we work closely with the Health Inspector to ensure that permits requiring collaboration between departments are managed seamlessly.
To make the permitting process more accessible, our website offers convenient online applications along with detailed information about each permit type. If you need clarification before applying, we encourage you to contact our office. Our knowledgeable and approachable team is ready to assist you and ensure that your project progresses smoothly from start to finish.
*IMPORTANT* If you email us with a question about your project, use the contact form below, and provide the address of the property for which you are inquiring. In the absence of this information, our team will be unable to furnish an appropriate response.
