Department of Public Works Snowstorm Advisory

The Town of Williamstown Department of Public Works is preparing for the upcoming snowstorm expected from Sunday into Monday. We respectfully ask for the public’s patience and cooperation as our crews work throughout the storm to keep roads open and passable.

Given the anticipated magnitude of this storm, DPW crews will be operating continuously and will no doubt be exhausted. Additionally, with temperatures expected to fall into the single digits, road salt will be significantly less effective, making it difficult to keep roadways and sidewalks completely clear of snow and ice.

Residents are strongly encouraged to travel only when necessary and to maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Reduced traffic greatly assists snow removal operations, so please plan ahead and obtain essential supplies before the storm begins.

To assist our efforts, please remove any obstacles from roadways and sidewalks, including trash receptacles and portable basketball hoops. These obstructions impede snow removal operations and can cause damage to DPW equipment, particularly plow vehicles.

Please do not blow, plow, or shovel snow back into the street.

For your safety, please keep a safe distance from plow trucks, especially at intersections. Plow operators have limited visibility behind their vehicles, and trucks often make multiple back and forth passes while clearing intersections. Be advised that with everyone in the Public Works doing their part, the phones may not be answered but please leave a message if there is a need to notify us of something important. Messages will be monitored. Please call 911 if there is an emergency. The Public Works Highway Department phone number is 413-597-8364.

With your cooperation, we will work through this storm safely and effectively. Thank you for your understanding and assistance, and please stay safe throughout the storm.

Craig Clough, Director of Public Works
