Massachusetts Emergency Order Classifies Kratom as a Schedule I Controlled Substance
Kratom is widely sold in smoke shops, convenience stores, and gas stations. The state has taken an emergency action to address public health concerns associated with kratom products and their availability within Massachusetts.
Announcing Early Voted Ballots Opening Sessions
The Town of Williamstown will be opening early voted ballots on August 26 and 27. Observers who register ahead of time are welcome to attend the sessions.
Williamstown Voters Establish an Agricultural Preservation Fund
This is believed to be the first Agricultural Preservation Fund established by an Agricultural Commission under MGL Ch. 40, Sec. 8L (2016), which empowers Agricultural Commissions to play a role in protecting farms and farmland through grants, municipal appropriations, donations or farm lease income to be used to purchase farmland or conservation restrictions, pay local matches on Agricultural Preservation Restrictions, farmland planning, appraisals, due diligence, and other related purposes.
Town Clerk’s and Treasurer’s Offices Limited Hours This Week
The Town Clerk’s office will close early at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
On Thursday and Friday, the Clerk’s office might need to close at 12:30 PM due to jury duty. Stay tuned here for updates.
The Treasurer’s Office is closed Tuesday through Thursday.
Thomas Street Water Main Replacement
PARKING UPDATE (August 10, 2026): Thomas Street residents no longer need to move their vehicles to the First Baptist Church lot. If vehicle access or relocation becomes necessary, the Water Department will contact affected residents on an as-needed basis until further notice.
