Thomas Street Water Main Replacement

The Williamstown Department of Public Works (DPW) Water Division will undertake a water
main replacement project on Thomas Street beginning July 6, 2026. 

Residents effected by this work will receive a mailing with the following information.

Project Overview

The existing 4-inch water main (installed 1960) will be replaced with a 6-inch main to improve reliability and fire protection. Service lines will be replaced from the main to the shutoff at the property line.

All work will be performed by the Williamstown Water Department. Project limits extend from Main Street to the end of Thomas Street.

Schedule

• Late May: Utility marking and preparation
• July 6, 2026: Construction begins
• Late August 2026: Anticipated completion (weather dependent)

Work Hours & Traffic

Road closed weekdays 7:30 AM–3:00 PM (up to 5:30 PM if needed).
Reopened daily. Emergency access maintained to the best of our abilities and departments are notified

Parking & Access

Parking available at First Baptist Church. Move vehicles before 7:30 AM.
Driveway disruptions possible. Trash, mail, and deliveries will be coordinated with the crew; notify your service provider of this project.

Water Service & Quality

Interruptions may occur. During final connection, shutdown required. Advance notice provided. After restoration, temporary  discoloration/air may occur—run cold water until clear.
