Trash and Recycling

To use the Williamstown Transfer Station (located at 671 Simonds Road) for trash, recycling, or composting, residents must display a current Transfer Station Permit Sticker on their vehicle.

  • Trash disposal also requires Trash Bag Tags.
  • Most recycling and composting services are included at no additional cost.

A Transfer Station Permit allows Williamstown residents to recycle, compost, and dispose of trash (with required Trash Bag Tags).

Required for Entry

A current permit sticker must be displayed on your vehicle – or – You must have a Temporary Permit in hand.

How to Purchase a Permit Sticker

Online

Pay by electronic check, credit card, PayPal, or Venmo.

Your permit sticker will be mailed to you >>> PURCHASE PERMIT ONLINE.

By Mail

Mail the completed the permit form and a check to: Collector’s Office, 31 North Street, Williamstown, MA 01267

In-Person

Visit the Collector’s Office (2nd floor of Town Hall) at 31 North Street, Williamstown.

Trash Bag Tags

  • One tag must be displayed on each 15-gallon bag.
  • Two tags are required for bags larger than 15 gallons.

Trash Bag Tags cost $2 each and are sold sheets of five for $10.

Tags may also be obtained at the Transfer Station. You will be asked to sign an invoice and be billed at the end of the month.

Recycling

Residents with a Transfer Station Permit may recycle most paper and containers at no charge.

Some items require a fee, including:

  • Demolition materials
  • TVs
  • Computers
  • Other select items

Composting

Residents with a Transfer Station Permit may drop off food waste at no additional cost, including fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, and bones.

How to compost at the Transfer Station

  1. Place food waste in the totes inside the red Compost Shed (on the right when entering).
  2. Food waste is collected by Tommy’s Compost Services and transported to farms.
  3. If using bags, use BPI‑certified compostable bags only. NO plastic bags (they contaminate compost).

Optional Kitchen Containers

Residents may purchase an optional EcoCaddy container for collecting food waste.

  • 6-gallon container: $35
  • 1.5-gallon container: $15
