You will see some changes at Margaret Lindley Park – A few of the great hemlock trees were sick with Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. The Department of Public Works has removed the trees for safety. Crews ground out the stumps.
That section of the beach has been roped off with yellow tape. Please stay out of the roped section to allow the ground to heal and grass to grow.
The Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (Adelges tsugae) is an invasive, aphid-like insect native to Asia that heavily infests and destroys North American hemlock trees by sucking sap from the base of their needles.
Thank you for your cooperation. Enjoy your swim and picnic at the park!
Here’s a view of the roped off section where the trees were removed:
The Historical Commission partners with Williamstown Historical Museum to offer a 1776 Self-Guided tour of the Town. Join in by driving to the sites or virtually from a comfy chair.
Until further notice, non-essential outdoor watering is prohibited between 9 am and 5 pm. And watering outside the restricted time is by hand-held hose only.
