The Town of Williamstown is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as its next Superintendent of Public Works. Reporting directly to the Director of Public Works, this position plays a critical role in planning, directing, and overseeing the operations of the Town’s Public Works Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services that support the community’s infrastructure, safety, and quality of life.
About the Position
The Superintendent of Public Works is responsible for managing the Highway, Cemetery, Parks, Transfer Station, and Facilities divisions while providing leadership for the Town’s public works operations, infrastructure projects, equipment maintenance, capital planning, and emergency response activities. The position supervises all Department of Public Works personnel and provides operational leadership during snow and ice emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee daily operations of the Highway, Cemetery, Parks, Transfer Station, and Facilities divisions.
- Manage public infrastructure projects, including road construction, drainage systems, bridges, culverts, and related capital improvements.
- Assist with engineering, design, and construction projects and collaborate with other Town departments on infrastructure initiatives
- Develop and administer division budgets, capital expenditure programs, payroll, and accounts payable
- Supervise employees, equipment utilization, maintenance programs, and contractor performance
- Oversee the Town’s snow and ice control program and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and provide ongoing safety training for staff.
- Foster strong working relationships with residents, municipal officials, neighboring communities, agencies, consultants, and contractors
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public works operations and management, engineering, construction, facility management, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of public works operations, budgeting, infrastructure maintenance, and project management
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and public relations skills.
- Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement (Class A preferred).
- Massachusetts 2A Hoisting License

The Town of Williamstown offers a competitive salary range of $95,000 to $105,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package
