Calendar Notes from the Director
OK, here we are at the Council on Aging in the merry month of May, and everything is getting green and it’s warmer
and warmer every day. Oh, and sunnier and sunnier every day…
Sarah and Carmel are celebrating Cinco De Mayo with Taco Tuesday. Registration required.
On the 8th, Soren Bouchard, a social worker with Berkshire Health Systems, will be here to
talk about accessing your Berkshire Health patient portal. Patient Portals are a free service
which tracks your health issues, treatments, visits with your Doc and more. BHS recently
upgraded their portal. Whether your technology skills are strong or not this presentation
will serve as an introduction as well as an opportunity to ask questions about navigating
this site.
We’ve got some interesting activities coming along this month. Our friends from the
McCann Postgraduate Student Nurses program will be here on the 14th to talk about bone
and joint issues and they are going to return on the 28th to talk about Oral Health. Light
lunch at 12:30, registration required
Our friend Jennifer Munoz will host the final to Aging Mastery classes of all time on the 4th
and the 11th at 1 o’clock both days. Aging Mastery has been a great resource but the
National Council on Aging thought it was better to pull the plug than update the program,
so the program ends forever on the 11th….
On the 19th, an entity called the Mobile Museum of Tolerance will be here to host a display
and talk about discrimination and issues of tolerance, the subject of focus is Anne Frank
and what she went through in occupied Europe during the Nazi regime. This should be
really interesting folks. Think about what’s happening in the world today and ponder
whether it could all happen again. Times available throughout the day, more to come.
On the 26th, at 12:00, Karen Fortuna, whom we met in April with her colleague from
Dartmouth, will be back will be back at
Harper with something new. This is the correct time. The note on
the calendar is a confusing mashup of two different events. No clue as to how that
happened. Anyway, a more detailed note on this program will follow next week.
The final tech tutoring session this spring with Williams students is the second at three.
On the 12th, Youlin Shi, our fantastic Tai Chi instructor and Chinese Chef will offer another
one of her great cooking demonstrations at 12:30. Slots are limited to 15 so reserve if you’re
coming. Oh. There won’t be Tai Chi classes from the 11th until June as Youlin will be away.
Finally, the Painting Class is currently full without openings for new students. We’ll let you
know when that changes.
Housekeeping notes:
There is no indoor yoga this Wednesday.
The Hearthway meeting with Proprietors Field has been cancelled and Hearthway
personnel have indicated that they will reschedule in the future.
Tai Chi class will be temporarily on hold as Youlin will be away until the middle of June.
