How to Have a Safe and Happy Halloween in Williamstown

Halloween is Saturday, October 31! Trick-or-treating at downtown businesses runs from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, and neighborhood trick-or-treating runs from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Southworth Street, School Street, and Cole Avenue are some of our most popular spots and will be busy with families after dark.

For drivers

  • Slow down, especially on Southworth Street, School Street, and Cole Avenue. If you can, avoid driving on these streets during trick-or-treat hours.
  • Watch for children crossing mid-block or stepping out between parked cars. Excited kids don’t always look both ways.
  • Turn on your headlights early, and enter and exit driveways slowly.
  • If you’re dropping off trick-or-treaters, park legally and don’t block driveways, hydrants, or crosswalks.

For trick-or-treaters and families

  • Add reflective tape or carry a flashlight or glow stick so drivers can see you.
  • Accompany young children. Older kids could travel in groups and agree on a route and a time to be home.
  • Use sidewalks and crosswalks.
  • Visit only homes with porch lights on, and check treats at home before eating them.

For homeowners

  • Turn on your porch light if you’re welcoming trick-or-treaters.
  • Clear steps and walkways of leaves, hoses, and decorations that could trip someone.
  • Keep pets inside. Doorbells and costumes can stress them out.
  • Consider non-food treats for children with allergies.

For young adults

Celebrating with friends? We hope you enjoy the holiday. Please be good neighbors: keep noise down in residential areas, respect private property, and remember that underage drinking is against the law. Look out for each other, and if a friend needs help, call for it.

For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call the Williamstown Police Department at (413) 458-5733

Happy Halloween from the Town of Williamstown! 🎃
